Pride of Guernsey: Stephen Walters

A GSPCA volunteer has been nominated for the Specsavers-sponsored Carer of the Year Award by the manager of the charity.

Stephen Walters heads up one of the Work to Benefit teams at States Works and GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said that over the last two years he has put his skills to good use on a wide variety of GSPCA projects.
In the process he has also been teaching unemployed individuals new work skills.
‘In his role as a team leader he goes over and above what is expected, not only for those looking to get back into work but also for the causes and projects he is helping,’ said Mr Byrne in his nomination.
‘From our charity shop flooring to our memorial garden, Steve’s skills are phenomenal and his helpful and caring nature is one to be admired.
‘He has found many Work to Benefit placements new jobs and taught many new skills.
‘Every single member of the GSPCA team thinks extremely highly of Steve, who also gives up his own time to help with grounds work and is always on the lookout for items that could be donated to help us in a wide variety of ways.’
