Pride of Guernsey: The Rev. Dr Adrian Datta

RECTOR of St Peter’s the Rev. Dr Adrian Datta has done phenomenal things in the parish since his induction in May last year, according to one parishioner.

Peter Martel, in nominating Mr Datta for the A7 Design-sponsored Parish Champion of the Year award, said he had done a fantastic job in pulling the community together whether they were churchgoers or not.
‘Adrian is an inspiring person who motivates others,’ he said.
Tea and coffee is now served in the parish church on Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons and this has proved very popular.
Mr Datta had also been a driving force in restoring the Western Parishes Service on Liberation Day, which was so popular that there was standing room only in the parish church.
Following the service, some 250 enjoyed lunch in the Western Community Centre, at no cost to them.
He was also behind the St Peter’s Community Flower and Music Festival last month, which drew huge crowds.
Musicians played in and around the church over three days and the Saturday also featured an open gardens event.
The day after the recent parish fete, a barbecue for the whole parish at Les Buttes, complete with entertainment, was attended by about 300 people.
