A TEACHER from Notre Dame Primary School has been nominated for the Garenne-sponsored Teacher of the Year award for introducing new initiatives and making ‘dreams come true’.
Claire Burchell was nominated by Sharon Dyke who said the Reception class teacher had an infectious enthusiasm.
‘Our son loves school as she has made it such an exciting place to be,’ said Claire. ‘The children come out with the most wonderful stories of what they have learnt and what they are planning to do, she involves them in all aspects of their learning.
‘She has lead an initiative within the school to obtain a national award for exceptional teaching in science [Primary Science Quality Mark – Silver Award] and this has resulted in the children learning so much more about the world around them.
‘She encourages them all the time and has some great initiatives to encourage learning and development. For instance, if they want to bake she suggests they write down the recipe and once they can do that they can make their chosen food.
‘My son wanted a lava lamp for his brother’s birthday and lo and behold he came home with one they had made together. I always say Mrs Burchell really does make your wishes come true.’ she said.
