Pride of Guernsey: Gracie Whitwam

AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl’s bravery since being diagnosed with leukaemia has been admirable and has helped the family through a difficult time.

Gracie Whitwam, 8, has been nominated for the Close Finance-sponsored Overcoming Adversity award, which recognises people of all ages who show spirit and strength when faced with challenges that can seem insurmountable.
Gracie’s nominator, Andrea Guilbert, praised her attitude throughout this ordeal, which is more than most children her age would have to overcome.
‘I have known Gracie since she was born as there was just a couple of hours apart between her and my son. They stayed friends all through these years,’ she said.
‘Last December, Gracie was diagnosed with leukaemia and has been at Southampton for treatment ever since.
‘She has been very brave as the treatment for this illness is a very hard one and she had to have chemotherapy.’
