A PAINFUL life event was made more bearable thanks to Argent Funeral Care staff Daniel Ormrod and Gary Vaudin, who have been nominated for the Pride of Guernsey Customer Service of the Year award, sponsored by Alexander Daniels.
Their nominator, Debbie Robinson, said she felt their line of work was not often talked about but their compassion in their work had made such a difference after the death of her father this year.
‘In February this year my sister and I lost our dear dad and our mum lost her much-loved husband. This was our first experience of losing someone so close and Daniel and Gary made a very sad event so much more bearable for us all.
‘Daniel first visited us on the day we lost dad and talked us through the whole process of arranging the funeral. He displayed the utmost professionalism and patience at all times whilst also coming across
as genuinely compassionate and caring.
‘He told me that he had wanted to be a funeral director since he was 11 years old and the way in which he went the extra mile to accommodate our wishes and translate our thoughts into reality clearly demonstrates the passion he has for his work.
‘Daniel’s colleague, Gary Vaudin, also went above and beyond in compiling dad’s eulogy. We had opted for a non-religious funeral and Gary voluntarily undertook research about dad’s time in the army and he brought dad back to life when delivering the reading.
‘Our dad would have loved the celebration that Daniel and Gary organised.
‘Although some might consider this to be just part of their job, we believe that the passion Daniel and Gary have for what must be extremely difficult work makes them exceptional and very worthy of recognition,’ she said.
