Michaela founded the cheerleading group Rebellion Allstars eight years ago.
‘We think Chyla deserves to be recognised for all the hard work she does to keep the Rebellion Allstars cheerleading club going and giving opportunities to young people to travel off island and compete on a national stage,’ said her nominators, the parents and athletes of the club who put forward a joint nomination.
‘Chyla works tirelessly to support and train a huge variety of people in one of the UK’s fastest growing sports and is building not just a community, but family within the club.
‘It is truly one of the best places to be on the island, and everyone who joins is made to feel welcome instantly.
‘She has just recently come back from taking a selection of 21 athletes, across six different competition slots, to a competition in the UK, where the teams came back with two first places, a second place, a third place and two fifth places thanks to her effort in teaching and coaching them all through new skills and routines since September 2022.
‘The entire programme is so thankful for her being there for us all, through all the tough moments and even injury three weeks before we travelled.
‘She works so hard for all of us and we think it’s high time she was recognised for this. We couldn’t do what we love without her.’
